Child's Play

Today my old uni friend Darren bought two of his kids around to meet the 2 Happy Hens. This photo is of Giblet in the greenery with the junior spectator leaning on a fake egg "borrowed" from the coop!
Nice coloured sandals Amelia!

A sea of red heads in the garden as the kids come out to play with Curry!
The 2 Happy Hens are not used to having a junior fan club sharing their yard!

Sleeping Beauty

Curry sleeping in the grass in front of an abandoned nest site.

Curry is mostly awake in this photo.

Curry is dozing off and is half asleep.

Sleeping Beauty.

This scene is typical of the 2 Happy Hens different personalities.
Curry is sleeping in the background and Giblet is digging a hole.
One loves to sleep, the other loves to dig....so typical.

Giblet's hole is getting deeper whilst Curry is still in "chicken dream land".
The "digging queen" actually dug a square hole approx 20cm x 30cm
as if to prepare the ground for a pot plant to be planted!
When I went to take a photo of this impressive hole the next day,
it had already been backfilled!

Hole Diggers

Miss Giblet is the queen of digging and loves hunting for worms.

Giblet exiting the hole and Curry moving in to take over digging!

A funny photo of Giblet bending over with her mouth open.
The 2 happy hens are looking for more good spots to dig holes.

Giblet found a good spot to dig under the reticulation.
Curry coming for a hole inspection.

Curry decides to start scratching independently.

Happy Anniversary

Today is exactly one year since Curry and Giblet came to live with us.
One year of fun, fun, fun and about 100 kilos of chook poo!
Not to mention dozens of lovely fresh eggs.

The snail population has gone from about a million down to about two snails rarely seen alive in the yard!  My friend Jenny would love to see the end to "snail parties" in the wet weather at home!
Weeds (especially the dreaded onion weed) have been greatly diminished and gobbled up as "chicken spaghetti" and no more problems with lawn beetle or slaters!

There has been an enormous improvement in our soil quality which is almost as good as Pete's vegie patch (as seen on Gardening Australia TV show!)

Below is one of my all-time favourite photos of Curry who is such a funny chicken. Miss Dora the Explorer loves to jump in cars the minute you open the door!

Maybe I should sell the photo to Toyota for their new advertising campaign?!
Oh what a feeling, Toyota!

Winter Warmers

The 2 happy hens love to soak up the sun whenever possible on a winter's day.

Curry with her wings out catching sun on top of Giblet.

I can see you Curry (behind Giblet).

The 2 Happy Hens don't look very comfortable but they really are!

Sleeping in the sun, siesta time.

Curry Cuddles

Curry is a big sook and loves to jump on Gerard for rubs and chicken massage under her wings several times a day!

Curry loves pats and quickly closes her eyes for little chicken naps.

Curry nice and relaxed getting spoilt!

Curry sleeping whilst standing on Gerard's foot. Giblet is not so fond of being patted and rubbed but we are working on her to be as affectionate as her sister Curry!

Preening Time

The 2 Happy Hens preening in the car port. They like to locate themselves near the corrugated iron fence where it is nice and warm during the winter months.

Preening in the front garden. Giblet loves the sun.

Curry sleeping on the job again!

The 2 Happy Hens were 6.5 months old in this photo. It was an unplanned photo where I slipped and accidentally pressed the camera button during preening time. I wish the photo was perfect and didn't half cut off Curry on the left hand side!  Curry has since lightened in colour whilst Giblet has remained a brick red colour.
