Egg Time

A view through the mobile coop from back to front.

The rear door is down so you can see right through the hen house.

Giblet has laid an egg in the nesting box on the right.

Lydia has been dying to buy an egg storage house like this one for ages but hasn't seen any for sale in the local shops. This cute egg house was a lucky find in a second hand store and was on display in the shop's front window. It must have been waiting for me to walk buy, see it, buy it and decorate my kitchen with eggs from the 2 Happy Hens! 

 The pair of chickens on the oval black stand are salt and pepper shakers. 

They were part of a farewell gift from Lydia's previous employer, along with a

bamboo chopping board in the shape of a chicken! (not pictured)



Merry Christmas

The official photos of the 2 Happy Hens on Christmas Day 2011.

The girls have their second Christmas at home in Western Australia.

What's that noise? Is that Santa coming?  I can hear jingle bells....

I hope Santa brings Curry some preening lessons so she can clean her dirty bottom!

Miss Giblet stands guard and gives the evil eye to the camera. 

 You can see her moulting a little bit around the neck and on her breast.

The 2 Happy Hens eat dirt on Christmas Day.

Curry looks like a bit of a scruff this Christmas!



Little rocks and grass are also on the menu on Christmas Day!

Silly season is in full swing as Curry shakes and walks at the same time!

Bend and Stretch This Silly Season

 Curry does a coordinated wing and leg stretch.

The 2 Happy Hens have dirty bums from a recent dust bath.

Curry takes a moment to stretch.

Giblet scratches her head.

Curry scratches her head and is upside down standing on one leg like a crazy chicken!  Crazy Curry! 

Giblet is obviously the more sensible chicken of the pair!

Silly season is here and Curry wins the funny photo competition!

Christmas Cartoon

Needless to say, this Christmas card is my all-time favourite!

Preen Queen

Giblet is the Queen of preening and starts under her right wing.

Then preens under her left wing.

Giblet opens both wings and preens right inside.

She looks a bit like a headless chook in this photo!

 The Preen Queen fluffs up her top leg.

The Preen Queen is all clean and beautiful ready for a walk in the garden.

Child's Play

Today my old uni friend Darren bought two of his kids around to meet the 2 Happy Hens. This photo is of Giblet in the greenery with the junior spectator leaning on a fake egg "borrowed" from the coop! 

Nice coloured sandals Amelia!

A sea of red heads in the garden as the kids come out to play with Curry!

The 2 Happy Hens are not used to having a junior fan club sharing their yard!

Sleeping Beauty

This scene is typical of the 2 Happy Hens different personalities.

Curry is sleeping in the background and Giblet is digging a hole. 

One loves to sleep, the other loves to dig....so typical.

 Giblet's hole is getting deeper whilst Curry is still in "chicken dream land".

The "digging queen" actually dug a square hole approx 20cm x 30cm

as if to prepare the ground for a pot plant to be planted! 

When I went to take a photo of this impressive hole the next day,

it had already been backfilled!
