Winter Warmers

The 2 happy hens love to soak up the sun whenever possible on a winter's day.

Curry with her wings out catching sun on top of Giblet.

I can see you Curry (behind Giblet).

The 2 Happy Hens don't look very comfortable but they really are!

Sleeping in the sun, siesta time.

Curry Cuddles

Curry is a big sook and loves to jump on Gerard for rubs and chicken massage under her wings several times a day!

Curry loves pats and quickly closes her eyes for little chicken naps.

Curry nice and relaxed getting spoilt!

Curry sleeping whilst standing on Gerard's foot. Giblet is not so fond of being patted and rubbed but we are working on her to be as affectionate as her sister Curry!

Preening Time

The 2 Happy Hens preening in the car port. They like to locate themselves near the corrugated iron fence where it is nice and warm during the winter months.

Preening in the front garden. Giblet loves the sun.

Curry sleeping on the job again!

The 2 Happy Hens were 6.5 months old in this photo. It was an unplanned photo where I slipped and accidentally pressed the camera button during preening time. I wish the photo was perfect and didn't half cut off Curry on the left hand side!  Curry has since lightened in colour whilst Giblet has remained a brick red colour.

Chicken Superpit

The famous open cut gold mine commonly known as "The Superpit" is a local tourist attraction and major employer in the town where the 2 Happy Hens live.  Hence the frequent and favourite past time of dust bathing has been nicknamed "Chicken Superpit".

Curry is a huge fan of making a mess and creating chicken superpits all over our yard.
I think we are up to "Chicken Superpit 100" in less than a year!
Who needs a pet dog to dig up your yard?!

Curry can kick dirt so high it goes over the front fence which is 1.2 metres high!

Little Miss Mega Mess x 2!

Curry sleeping in the chicken superpit.

Time for more dust bath action. Curry kicking Giblet in the head - poor Gibby!

Giblet shaking - what a huge dust cloud!

Chicken Limbo

The 2 happy hens love to play in our carport and eat little stones to help their digestion. Of course all the yummiest little rocks are located under the car so they get down low and go, go, go!  Enjoy the photos of chicken limbo under the car (Curry being Dora the Explorer again!)

Where's Curry now? Can you see the brown ball of fluff?

Oh there she is under the car!

Come out from underneath there Curry!

Double trouble!

Giblet the first one out.

Hello!

Tablet Time

After months of procrastination, we gave the 2 Happy Hens worming tablets yesterday which was a much easier exercise than anticipated.  The tablet was wrapped in multi grain bread and gobbled down in a second, each hen getting their proper dose which will be repeated in 3 months time. They have been dusted with powder to kill external parasites (which I'm sure they never had but it was in the health care pack I purchased for the 2 happy hens last year).  Their water supply is dosed with vitamins and trace elements for the 2 happy hens to enjoy (does this mean I've spiked their drink?!)  Curry's large comb is redder than ever with extra vitality!

2 Soggy Happy Hens

Today is the first rainy day in several weeks, (maybe a month or more?!) so I thought I would show you some photos of the soggy 2 happy hens. Giblet is doing a runner in this photo and is scared of the camera, unlike her sister Curry who loves showing off for the paparazzi!

Soggy "Dora the Explorer" in our laundry. Rain, hail or shine, the chicken loves to come inside!

I love the footprints the 2 happy hens make on rainy days. It almost looks like Curry has walked down the catwalk (or should that be "chicken walk"?!) and stopped to pose for the photo!
