Happy Easter

Easter 2021 is the 10 year anniversary of this blog! Can you believe it?!

Wow - a whole decade of blogging photos of our much loved pet hens.

We've gone from 2 hens, to 3 hens, to now having 4.

I wonder what how many hens we'll have in the next 10 years?!

Frenchy has a very fluffy white butt which we sometimes refer to as 'bunny bum'.

It was a very warm Easter this year with temperatures in the high 30C's.

Early April felt more like summer than autumn!

Frenchy looks dead on the ground but she's really relaxed and enjoying the sun!

Buffy and Bianco managed to keep still for a moment to have their

photo taken for Easter. The leghorn breed is very nervous and timid.

Speckles and Frenchy Turn 3

Half-sisters Frenchy (left) and Speckles (right) turned 3 years old last month.

They've been our much loved pets for over 2.5 years and have great characters.

Frenchy and Speckles both started moulting around Christmas time.

Speckles looks more rounded without her black tail.

Frenchy has half-grown a new tail.

Frenchy is off the lay whilst moulting whilst Speckles lays a few eggs a week.
It's fun having 2 Happy Hens who are 3 years old.

2020 Pet of the Year Second Place Winner

The local newspaper held their annual 'Pet of the Year' competition later than

usual in 2020 due to COVID-19. Buffy was entered on the page above. 

Speckles, Bianco and Frenchy were also entered in the competition.

Speckles won second prize in the 'Pet of the Year' competition with 132 votes.

A dog won first place with 201 votes.

Speckles also won 'Judges Choice'!

Obviously the judges fell in love with Speckles cute fluffy face!

Lydia was excited that Speckles was a 'double winner'!

The second prize was a $300 animal merchandise voucher which

is yet to be spent at the vet. The 'Judges Choice' prize was a

$100 pet pack including bags of laying pallets and feed.

Speckles liked the dried meal worms won as

part of her 'Judges Choice' pet pack prize.

Speckles got a dirty beak from pecking the dried meal worms off the ground.

Frenchy and Speckles are looking for more meal worms to eat.
